Yes, my fine Fandom friends, it's that time of the year again.  When I head out to CONvergence, sit on panels, and terrorize all who come before me!  MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

*ahem*

ANYWAY.  Tags from me are going to be pretty non-existant for the next five days.  Live-tweets as available, and I promise not to get caught doing anything that requires bail money.

Too often, students become wrapped up in the strange culture of Fandom Island, never looking past its boarders to see the wider world. This class is an opportunity to explore the mainland on a regular basis, and take in some of the wonders that this planet has to offer. Students will travel by portal to various points of interest all over the United States, spending two hours at each stop to learn about the culture of the time and place they are living in.

THIS IS A FIELD TRIP CLASS. Instead of isolating students by using the Danger Shop to simulate non-Fandom environments, Ghanima is going to take the students off-island to three museums, three plays, three national parks, and three formal restaurants. This gives us twelve classes, which gives me room to adjust in case of BDE/Trauma/RL. Because, ngl, this is Fandom, and there will be trauma at some point. That's just how it works. Ghanima will be wearing sunglasses or special contacts to disguise her eyes when off-island, and suggests that any clearly non-human students consider making similar adjustments. Causing riots is not nearly as fun as it sounds.

She is also in the market for a TA. Comments are screened, questions will be unscreened, and the RNG will dictate the TA on Monday.

Questions? Comments? Destination suggestions?

From cityscapes to icebergs, each week we will look at a different type of terrain, and one thing you can do to make your life easier. Please be aware that there is no syllabus to this class, because Ghanima is a cruel woman and does not want you to have time to prepare for each scenario.

Students may end up covering a few of the same types of terrain, but with different activities from last time. You can see previous classes here, and I'm happy to take suggestions on what ya'll would like to do this time around.

TA: TBD. Ghanima needs one, are you interested? Comments are screened, preferences is given to grads needing a reason to stay on campus, and the RNG Gods will decide your fate.

So as we mentioned here, this Sunday's Fight Club will be tag-team fights! We're asking people to sign-up with a partner, and then we'll RNG pairs together. Sign-ups close Friday at noon, and yes, this is open to alumni too, if you know you're going to be on the island.

We're hoping to RNG stuff Friday afternoon, so that we can notify people of their matches, so things can get planned out or preplayed, in case of timezone insanity.

And, as always, we're looking to do more themed weeks with Fight Club -- if you have an idea, please suggest it!

Ghanima is looking for a pair of minions TAs for World Mythology, to be determined by the whims of the RNG. Duties include passing out handouts, posting for me if I get eaten by RL, and, if there's a myth you're passionate about, the opportunity to teach class that day.

Also, laughing at your classmates for the final, but we'll get there.

Comments are screened, TAs will be drawn on Wednesday the 30th.

Due to the newbie weekend invasion, there will be no Fight Club tomorrow. Tyler and Ghanima would like to give the new residents a chance to settle in before possibly throwing them around the gym. Please handwave they mentioned this last week before assigning the matches, and that a reminder notice is posted on the door of their regular sparring space. Fandom Fight Club will resume next Sunday at its usual place and time.

For those of you with new characters who will want to join, I refer you to this post for RNG sign-up goodness.

We now return you to your newbie squeeing. YAY NEW PEOPLE.

ETA: We don't own Atlas, so if someone wants to go make their own post to work out anyway, please feel free. However, the organizers have classes to prep for, hence announcing the cancellation last week.

Ghanima's class, as always, requires a teaching assistant. Your responsibilites include keeping an eye on your classmates, making photocopies of handouts, facilitating discussions, and eating the candy she keeps on her desk.

If you're interested, sign up here, and trust your fate to the RNG! Comments are screened, and class information is here if you want to know more. I'm also happy to take questions about the class here or via email.

What? Another availability notice from me? Shocking.

Starting on Friday morning, I join the flashmob of librarians known as the 2009 ALA Annual Convention, and then go about terrorizing a bastion of higher education for the next nine days.

That is more fun that it sounds, I promise.

I have absolutely no idea what my availability is going to be, but at the very least, my usual weekday 9-5 SP magic is gone since I'll be busy imitating a diligent student or out getting in trouble with certain people... [livejournal.com profile] mouthy_merc I AM LOOKING AT YOU. I'll do my best to get my students tagged in properly, and Ghanima's class will go up on time, but I apologize in-advance for uber-slow and/or dropped tags from [livejournal.com profile] icecoldfrost, [livejournal.com profile] death_of_hope, and [livejournal.com profile] atreideslioness.

Regular availability shall return on the 19th when I come stumbling home, although I do not promise coherency.

ETA: Currently stealing half-bar of unsecured wireless from someone else in my building. Let's see how long it takes them to catch on... *evil laugh* Buuuuuuuuusted. Now to try and find a late-night coffee shop with wifi, because I'm so in withdrawal, it's sad.
